Commission for a Renewed Lutheran Church

At our Synod Assembly in June 2022, voting members approved a recommendation to the Churchwide Assembly a memorial about restructuring the Church. The Churchwide Assembly, which met in August 2022, agreed that it is time to review the ELCA’s governing documents and structures given the changes in our world and in the Church.

In November 2022, the ELCA Church Council responded to the memorial. You can read the Church Council’s response on the back of this letter.

This is important and critical work in the life of our Church. The Allegheny Synod Council will consider nominations from our Synod through February 10, 2023. The Synod Council will meet to consider the nominations and make a recommendation in March, 2023. We will use the nomination form commonly used for nominations in our Synod Assembly work. It can be found on our Synod’s website in the News and Calendar tab.
